[ Props for the initiative. ] Yeah, so, can you explain to me why Benny's finger got cut off? Thanks. [ It's not meant to be passive aggressive—and if Kaidan were saying it, it'd sound as dry as the Mojave—but through text it can certainly be read that way. ]
Given that, so far, it's just Arcade and me who have medical training, I'd like to know if I have to account for future amputations. It's not personal, it's professional. [ After several hours to cool off Kaidan has come to the realization he doesn't really care why they're doing this. The specifics (political, personal, whatever) are not his to comprehend, some guy from another system. But he'll be damned if he doesn't voice his displeasure at people causing needless injury while they're all in imminent danger. ]
Can we please be adults about this? I'm not asking you not to defend yourself or hug the guy, I'm asking you, politely, not to pick fights. I think Benny was sufficiently frightened by being permanently maimed. If later down the road you two decide to fight it out again, by all means go for it, but please do so in such a way that us medics don't have to peel you both off the floor. I cannot emphasize this enough—medical supplies are at a premium. I pretty much used the majority of my first aid kit on Benny.
Now, I'd like to be friends, Kaidan. I ain't trying to pick any fights. I think you're right, we oughtn't make things harder here when they're already as difficult as they are.
I understand you come from a world that was under attack, but still an otherwise intact, thriving place, right? Place worth saving?
Our world ain't all apple pie and big American breakfasts anymore. It hasn't been in over two-hundred years. We got dead zones soaked in radiation in every major city from sea to shining sea, we got radstorms so bad they'll flay the skin off a man's body in minutes, and we got every manner of animal under the sun exposed to so much nuclear fallout they might as well be worse than all the critters we've seen here combined.
So in the interest of being transparent - and I'm going to say this with all the respect I can muster in spite of the fact you're talking to me like I'm some greenhorn - when I cut a man's finger off, you'd best believe I have a good goddamn reason for it. And you sure as Hell aren't going to make me feel guilty about it.
[ Kaidan could counter every example Len throws at him with worlds soaked to their core in those same problems (including his own, given the state the reapers left Earth can't exactly be called thriving when millions, including his father, perished), but he knows damn well getting into a pissing contest regarding who has it worse is an exercise in futility. Suffering is universal, you really think you're the only system with problems? is unhelpful (and infuriating) against something as deeply-seated as this. It's obvious the animosity between Benny and Len isn't solely environmental, it's personal. He has no right nor desire to play mediator-therapist to this mess and it'd be in his best interest to keep this professional between himself, Benny, Len and whoever else might be a part of it.
Given Len's first text, it seems his concerns were listened to. That's all Kaidan can ask for. ] Yes. We do.
[ Ain't any point in digging further, because frankly, Len isn't certain anyone's truly earned the truth. Benny can whine all he wants; the courier he tried to kill will be keeping an eye on him. ]
Good. I look forward to speaking with you under different circumstances.
Post-....I mean, you know. ;)

Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't see how it's any of your business.
